Last.fm is taking its music services to the HD airwaves.
This is where Internet access meets the car, a step forward in Internet ubiquity and its convergence into all media formats.
But will it work?
I think people like the Last.fm format. The songs are randomized based on music preferences which is what radio essentially tries to accomplish in any case.
One integrated feature that may make sense is a save to download option. This can be to iTunes or Amazon MP3 or a simple note on Shazam to download the track later on.
The Last.fm/terrestrial radio model also signals a change in online promotion. It's just as important to get music played online so that it gets through the car.
Convergence is happening and it's a good thing for music consumption and maintaining radio listening habits.
